My path to become a Content Manager

My path to the current point in my career was not linear as is the case for many people. I left school with the firm belief that I’d become a teacher. As such I started university with a study program to become an elementary school teacher. After a couple of internships in teaching, I realised that this path wasn’t for me. So, I had to change professional direction quickly so I wouldn’t end up in a dead end in my career.

For my bachelor’s degree I then chose a more general field of studies with focus on literature and culture of German- and English-speaking countries. In doing so I developed a deeper understanding of the languages and cultures which I could expand with my personal experiences. In this context I got the chance to study abroad in England for a semester and to learn more about the Irish culture in a traditional Gaeltacht in the heart of Ireland.

When I had to choose my master’s degree, I specifically chose a university that offered journalism as a field of studies and covered the important areas of journalism (audio-visual media and different types of text for newspaper publications). Build on this basis the study program offered practical specialisations in the four main areas Publishing, Newspaper, Radio and Video.  I chose the specialisations in Publishing and Radio since these areas spoke to me the most during the basics.

While my master’s studies were very oriented towards practical experiences (for example we created our own videos), the entire digital area was missing even though it is becoming more and more important in this day and age. Therefore, I decided once I had my master’s degree to add further training to expand my knowledge and expertise in the areas digital publishing and marketing. This way I came to the current point in my career as Content Manager and hope to learn many new things in the future to help me grow personally and professionally.
